My New Year's Resolutions 2017

New Year’s resolutions are a funny concept when you think about it. Why do we choose January, the month when we are most likely to be broke, tired, and bored, to attempt to revamp our lives? I mean seriously, after the decadence of Christmas, why do we insist on detoxing from everything we have just overindulged in? Every year we set ourselves up to fail with a plethora of well intentioned goals. We humans are fickle, and even when the odds are stacked against us, we still hold out hope that we can beat them. That being said, I will always make (and inevitably break) New Year’s resolutions. If I don’t ever aim to achieve anything at all, then I’ll become a stagnant puddle of swamp water, and no one wants that! This year I’ve tried to make a mix of simple, fun changes and serious life goals- quick wins and slow burners.

One.
Wear more leopard print.
Now bare with me here because this is a valid New Year’s resolution! I love leopard print, it makes me happy, but I really don't wear enough of it. I’m thinking less tacky Kat Slater or Jersey Shore, and more Jackie Kennedy’s 1962 Oleg Cassini coat. Classic cuts with a leopard twist, faux fur and fabulous.

Two.
Finish decorating the flat.
Back in August '16 my boyfriend and I moved into an unfurnished flat. We’ve made progress with filling the space, like picking up essentials such as a sofa, beds, TV unit etc, but it’s lacking personality. We need rugs, artwork on the walls, and finishing touches. I have Pinterest boards for days, with DIY ideas, furniture, and interior design inspiration. Follow me if you fancy!

Three.
Stop being a messy bitch.
I really need to be tidier. My boyfriend puts up with a lot! I’m rubbish at putting clean clothes away, tidying up my stuff on the sofa, decluttering our spare room. This year I aim to be better.

Four.
Eat less sugar.
I have a complete and utter addiction to sugar. For the good of my teeth and my belly, it’s time to start weaning myself off. Cold turkey is too drastic so I’m taking baby steps, avoiding refined sugar where possible. No more snacking on sweets or chocolate. Ice cream is a treat not a god given right!

Five.
Stop being a lazy bitch.
Apart from starting netball training last September, I pretty much sit on my ass 90% of the time. I need some regular exercise. Joining a gym, doing some classes and getting active is never a bad thing.

Six.
Publish more blog posts.
This is something I’ve really wanted to do for ages now. I have so many half finished blog posts sat in my drafts. I want to post more and build up Alice Adores Apparel, make it something I'm proud of. I think I’ve got some interesting shit to say!

Seven.
Start my YouTube channel for real.
I’ve been immersed in YouTube culture for years and years now. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to start blogging. To build up a fun and interesting site to eventually expand. Last year I announced on here I wanted to start a YouTube channel but since then I haven’t actually been able to get my act together and get content out there. This year is when Alice Adores Apparel goes multi media. Subscribe now!

Eight.
Become a planning queen.
I picked up a gorgeous gold metallic planner from Kikki K just before Christmas. Yes it’s super flashy, no I don’t care! I love using my phone to track to-do lists and appointments but there is still something really lovely about handwriting in a planner. I’ve designed a set of custom pages with daily checklists, meal planners and monthly goals to completely customise my planning set up. Yep I’m one of those people now.

Nine.
Stop buying lunch at work.
This is a massive cash drain. I shudder to think how much money I have wasted from buying food from M&S and Tesco. Store bought just isn’t going to cut it anymore. I’m all about batch cooking soups and making my own dishes now.

Ten.
Listen to more music.
Now we've got an Amazon Echo Dot to link to our Bose Soundlink Mini, I'm finally sorting out Spotify premium. If you want to get an idea of what I’m listening to, you can check out my monthly playlists. I also kinda want to get a record player and my favourite albums on vinyl to play start to finish. Does that make me pretentious? Yeah probably!

Time will tell whether I end up keeping any of these New Year's resolutions, but like I said at the start of this post, better to at least try to make a change than to not even bother.
