The Liebster Award

So a couple of weeks ago I had a lovely tweet from the beautiful Mary Lou at English Rain (englishrainblog.blogspot.co.uk), telling me she had nominated me for the Liebster Award. I felt incredibly honoured she had checked out my blog, let alone that she had chosen to nominate me. About a week or so ago the gorgeous SJ from UndergroundBeautyX (undergroundbeautyx.blogspot.co.uk), left a comment on my 20 of the Best Crystal Necklaces post telling me she had nominated me for the Liebster Award. Again I was gobsmacked! Thank you so much girls. It’s amazing to be recognised by fellow bloggers. I've tried to incorporate both versions of the award that you both did. So what is the Liebster Award?

Basically it’s given to bloggers by bloggers to recognise new or up & coming blogs (a lot of blog in one sentence there!) It’s a great opportunity for people new to the blogging world and people in search of new readers; a way to network and gain exposure.

There are a few simple rules for the award:

The Liebster award is given by bloggers to other bloggers who have less than 200 followers.
Nominees must link back to the blog who nominated them.
You must share 11 random facts about yourself.
You must answer the 10 Liebster questions given to you by the nominating blogger.
Choose 10 new bloggers you love to nominate for this award and link them in your post.
Create 10 new Liebster questions for your nominees to answer.
You must go to the blogs of your nominees to notify them.

My 11 Random Facts

My perfect dessert would feature salted caramel and pecan nuts.
I cannot stand pretty much every romcom ever made. I hate mush & cliché romance. And I especially hate unrealistic happy endings. Shakespeare got it right with the double tragedy at the end of Romeo & Juliet. You won’t catch me watching The Notebook…
I have 2 favourite songs of all time: Bob Marley Could You Be Loved, because it is summer summed up in 3 mins 26 secs; and Otis Redding, White Christmas because it is beautiful. (Bonus points if anyone understands what I mean by MAYONNAISE!- comment below if you do!)
I can’t physically go out without heels on. People I only really see when I'm out sometimes are bemused at the height difference when they see me in the day.
My favourite colour is gold so I only wear gold and rose gold jewellery.
I'm mixed raced and proud. My Mum is British with Jamaican parents and my Dad is British Caucasian.
My favourite animal is the giraffe because they physically makes zero sense. I also have a mild obsession with having a baby pygmy hippo as a pet.
I used to live on Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
I wish I was in a girl band on a daily basis. I'm 99% sure my sister and I will start one someday!
My biggest regret is not continuing with ballet classes when I was younger.
I love rock pooling. I think it is the most interesting thing to do at the beach.

What made you want to start a blog?

I’ve always loved fashion and style. Starting a blog has always been something I’ve wanted to do, but I could never find the time. A few of my friends were pestering me to start one, so I finally relented after completing my MA.

Who's your beauty guru?

I love YouTube fashion & beauty gurus. My favourites are definitely Sammi Maria aka beautycrush, Gracie Francesca aka UglyFaceOfBeauty, Bunny Mayer aka grav3yardgirl, Helen Anderson aka MelonLady, Sian Brooks aka SianShutterbug, Patricia Bright aka BritPopPrincess, & Tara Marzuki aka TarMar.

If you have to choose between eyeliner and mascara what would you keep?

Eyeliner because my make-up routine always includes a liquid eyeliner ‘60s inspired cat eye, without fail. Plus you can still curl your lashes.

Who is your style icon and why?

I don’t really have one. I’m more interested in street style than celebrities.

What kind of blog post do you prefer?

To write, I love compiling outfits such as in my Wish I Wearing posts & Three Ways To Wear posts.

Where do you take inspiration for your blog?

Copious amounts of internet shopping. My posts are about what I have seen and loved, and what I want to see on others.

What kind of goals do you want to reach with your blog?

Build a readership that really interacts with my posts, sharing and commenting, so as to spark discussion. It would be great to hit 100 Bloglovin’ followers by March 2014 (my birthday month).

What is your absolute favourite shop?

This I was way too hard! ATM I really love Topshop & River Island to physically shop in. I adore a good department store too though, so M&S, John Lewis, & Selfridges are definitely huge favourites. Online, I love Daisy Street, Missguided, & Choies. So no absolute favourite sorry!

If you had a lot of money, what is the first thing you'd like to buy?

The Large Classic Flip Bag in black quilted lambskin with gold fastenings by Chanel. Perfection.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years time?

I would absolutely love to be working as a retail fashion buyer in London, happy, & cured of my phobia of dogs!

What 5 beauty products are a staple in your collection?

My skin is painfully dry so I’d have to choose Cold Cream for my face because it’s super thick and is great for soothing irritation, and Vaseline Intensive Rescue Moisture Locking Lotion because it is incredible for the rest of my body. I love the Organix Brazilian Keratin Shampoo & Conditioner for taming my curls if I’m straightening my hair. I've also just recently started using coconut oil as a hair mask which gives my hair a moisture boost.

Do you have a celebrity idol?

I wish I was Beyoncé,

High End or Drugstore?

Ooooo this is a toughie. I'm all about value for money. Sometimes that means a great high end product that has no drug store dupe, but I’m a massive fan of finding the cheapest and most effective product for me. It’s always important to check out who owns drug store brands because often if they are owned by big high end companies, the formula for their pricey products can appear in a lower end packaging slightly tweaked. Basically I love both!

What inspires you?

Street style, fashion & beauty bloggers, YouTubers, magazines, old movies, a bit of everything really.

Dream job?

Buyer at one of the top High Street or High End department stores.

Are you a spender or a saver?

SPENDER! What is money for otherwise?!

What is your dream holiday destination?

Right now I really want to go skiing. None of my family ski so I've only ever been once with school to Lake Tahoe when I was 16. I was hilariously bad but it was so fun!

A fun fact about you?

I proudly own a pair of gold sequin MC Hammer harem pants!

If you could have one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?

Sashimi… no Galician octopus… no lobster… no scallops… no mussels... oh I don’t know some sort of seafood! Mind you I do adore macaroni cheese too.

What is your current favourite lip product?

Lanolips 101 Ointment is a recent discovery of mine. My lips are super super dry all year round and the pure lanolin formula of this balm is one of the only products which actually helps.
